FDC 212 Tailoring<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Traditional and speed-tailoring methods utilizing advanced techniques and materials. Includes pattern alterations,<br />

buttonholes, welt pockets, shaping the interfacing, inner structure, and complete garment evaluation.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 112, 211 with a grade of B or better.<br />

Information: Prerequisite(s) may be waived with consent of instructor.<br />

FDC 221 Flat Pattern Making II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Continuation of FDC 121. Includes measurement, marking and fitting, review of sloper slash and spread methods of<br />

design, pattern preparation, determining garment patterns, garment construction, and evaluation of individual garment<br />

design and construction.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 121.<br />

Recommendation: Students should have a grade of C or higher in the prerequisite course before enrolling in this<br />

course.<br />

FDC 223 Computer Patternmaking II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Continuation of FDC 123. Includes introduction to software pattern libraries, advanced computer flat patternmaking, and<br />

using computer-aided pattern design.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 123.<br />

FDC 224 Computer Patternmaking III<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Continuation of FDC 223. Includes computer marker making, creation of technical sketches for use in production, and<br />

computer measurement grading.<br />

FDC 241 Introduction to the Draping Method of Garment <strong>Design</strong><br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Application of design principles using the draping method of fashion design to create an original garment. Includes review<br />

of essential design principles, fabrics, applying fabrics to the dress form, and practical applications.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 111, 211.<br />

FDC 245 Digital Fashion <strong>Design</strong><br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to the use of computer software to design fashion and technical drawings. Includes the fashion work arena,<br />

features and applications used to create digital fashion drawings, vocabulary, terms and technical criteria, fashion<br />

software, and developing multiple color patterns and textures.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 111, 144 with a B or better.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of ART 100 before enrolling in this course.<br />

FDC 288 Portfolio Preparation<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Overview of the development and marketing of a professional portfolio. Includes definition and evaluation of coherent<br />

bodies of work, documentation of work, preparation of portfolio production, production of a portfolio, parts of a portfolio,<br />

and marketing.<br />

Recommendation: For advanced students who have completed coursework in their specific areas.<br />

Portfolio concentrations will be determined in a conference between student and instructor.<br />

FDC 289 Fashion <strong>Design</strong> and Clothing Capstone<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Development and creation of individual original garments incorporating skills acquired through previous courses. Includes<br />

capstone project overview, development of a five-piece collection, and presenting the garment line.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 111, 112, 121, 122, 126, 141, 144, 211, 241.<br />
