travel product, and careers in the travel industry.<br />

TVL 102 Computerized Reservation Systems<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Basic software training. Includes screen management, passenger name record (PNR), Sabre’s FOX, PNR modifications,<br />

faring/pricing the completed PNR, booking and pricing hotels and rental cars.<br />

TVL 103 Geography for the Tourism Professional<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of tourist attractions and applied physical geography of global tourism destinations. Students will choose<br />

three of the following geographic areas on which to focus: North America, Mexico, Northern and Central Europe, East<br />

Africa, East Asia, France, Southern Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and Hong Kong. Includes the Travel Institute’s Destination<br />

Specialist Certification Exam in the geographic areas studied.<br />

Concepts of selling techniques for the tourism professional. Includes phone and internet selling strategies as well as an<br />

introduction to listening skills, sales techniques, client behavior styles, closing the sale, legal aspects of the travel industry<br />

for inside, outside and home-base tourism professionals. Also includes concepts of tourism marketing and marketing<br />

techniques for the tourism professional, consumer behavior, strategies, and marketing elements.<br />

TVL 209 Introduction to Tour Guiding<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (3 lec., 1 lab)<br />

Specific training for students interested in becoming a tour guide. Includes career opportunities, Destination Management<br />

Companies, managing tour groups, public speaking, and pre-tour planning. Also includes briefing tour members, tour<br />

guide policies and procedures, airport departure and arrival procedures, dealing with health and medical issues and other<br />

tour group problems, and preparing for a job interview.<br />
