FSC 180 Driver Training for Fire Service<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Techniques for driving and handling fire vehicles. Includes safe operating procedures, defensive driving, apparatus<br />

inspection, training in emergency maneuvers, and the key components of the driving system.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 149, 150, 151.<br />

FSC 181 Firefighter Rescue<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

<strong>Design</strong>ed to give the firefighter the skills necessary to remove themselves and fellow firefighters from dangerous<br />

situations. Includes the skills necessary to perform effectively as a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) team with the goal of<br />

locating and removing injured or trapped firefighters.<br />

FSC 185 Advanced Fire Investigation: Arson<br />

Training in fire investigation. Includes private sector agencies and fire science and governmental agencies at state and<br />

local level, with or without police powers, who have direct responsibility for fire investigations.<br />

FSC 189 Current Issues in Fire Science<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Study of current issues in the fire service. Includes developing and writing an independent, applied research project,<br />

utilizing various computer applications for formatting and design, and use of the Internet and library resources.<br />

Prerequisite(s): WRT 101, 102.<br />

Information: Completion of twenty credits in FSC prefix courses is required before enrolling in this course.<br />

FSC 260 Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Theoretical and practical training in developing and instructing fire and emergency services training programs. Includes an<br />

exploration of safety and legal issues, adult learning psychology, developing, planning and presenting effective instruction,<br />

evaluating student learning, teaching diverse learners, and use of instructional media.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 189.<br />

Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course concurrently with FSC 189.<br />

Meets the requirements for the Arizona State Fire Marshal Instructor I certification and NFPA 1041.<br />

FSC 261 Fire and Emergency Services Instructor II<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Continuation of FSC 260. Theoretical and practical training in developing, instructing and managing fire and emergency<br />

services training programs. Also includes an exploration of the design and development of training programs, performing<br />

needs and task analyses, development and utilization of lesson plans, the recruitment, selection and evaluation of<br />

instructors, and training manager’s responsibilities relating to budget and resource management.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 260.<br />

Concepts, techniques, and application of effective executive leadership. Includes leadership styles and characteristics, the<br />

effective executive, and leaders with vision, influence and motivation. Also includes being a change facilitator in a<br />

traditional organization, and the future of leadership.<br />

FSC 271 Leadership II for Fire Service Executives<br />

Continuation of FSC 270. Includes organizational structure, roles and responsibilities, and organizational values. Also<br />

includes organizational vision, fiscal management and priorities, innovative organizations, executive leadership, and<br />

deployment of self.<br />
