MUS 116 <strong>Pima</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Orchestra<br />

2 cr. hrs. 3 periods (1 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Progressive development of musical skills through interpretation of orchestra literature. Includes participation in regular<br />

rehearsals and performances.<br />

Information:<br />

Students chosen by audition.<br />

May be taken ten times for a maximum of twenty credit hours.<br />

MUS 120 Concert Band<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Progressive development of musical skills through interpretation of literature. Includes participation in regular rehearsals<br />

and performances.<br />

Information:<br />

Students chosen by audition.<br />

May be taken ten times for a maximum of thirty credit hours.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring.<br />

MUS 125 Structure of Music I<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Review of music fundamentals. Includes form and analysis, nonharmonic tones and harmonic analysis, simple keyboardstyle<br />

harmony, figured bass, chord functions, voicing chords voice leading, part-writing and seventh chords. Also includes<br />

cadences, chords in second inversion, harmonic progression, modulation by common chord, secondary dominants and<br />

chorale harmonizations.<br />

Information:<br />

Required for all other music structure courses.<br />

Students who are music majors take MUS 125 and 127 concurrently.<br />

Music majors must also concurrently enroll in the appropriate level of studio instruction course. Consult a full time music<br />

faculty member for additional information.<br />

MUS 126 Structure of Music II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Continuation of MUS 125. Includes chromatic harmony and melody, secondary dominants and modulation, seventh and<br />

ninth chords, large forms and genres, neopolitan and augmented sixth chords, and enharmonic relations. Also includes<br />

chromatic mediants and modulation, harmonic sequence, borrowed chords, and technical vocabulary.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MUS 125.<br />

Corequisite(s): MUS 129<br />

Information: Music majors must concurrently enroll in the appropriate level of studio instruction course. Consult a full<br />

time music faculty member for additional information.<br />

MUS 127 Aural Perception I<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Development of aural techniques. Includes rhythmic dictation, intervallic recognition, sight singing, rhythmic performance,<br />

and clapping and counting rhythms.<br />

Information:<br />

Required for all other music aural perception courses.<br />

Students who are music majors take MUS 125 and 127 concurrently.<br />

Music majors must also concurrently enroll in the appropriate level of studio instruction course. Consult a full time music<br />

faculty member for additional information.<br />

MUS 129 Aural Perception II<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Continuation of MUS 127. Includes aural approaches to chromatic harmony, melody, and associated structures, and<br />

advanced applications for rhythmic dictation, intervallic recognition, and general listening techniques.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MUS 127.<br />

Corequisite(s): MUS 126<br />
