ESL 088 Academic English II<br />

6 cr. hrs. 6 periods (6 lec.)<br />

Advanced-level, integrated academic skills for non-native speakers of English. Includes four content-based units including<br />

text and discourse on academic topics, advanced grammatical structures, reading academic texts, writing about academic<br />

topics, using word processing and the internet, and goal setting.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ESL 085 with a C or better or required score on the ESL assessment test.<br />

ESL 088GR Academic Grammar II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Advanced level grammar with a focus on written English in academic contexts. Includes verb tense and mood, sentence<br />

structure, structural analysis and other structures.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ESL 085 with a C or better, or required score on ESL assessment test.<br />

Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in ESL 088 is highly recommended.<br />

ESL 088TO Comprehensive TOEFL Preparation<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Comprehensive Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test preparation for ESL/EFL students. Includes introduction<br />

to the TOEFL and the test-taking strategies, skill review with intensive practice for all four test components: grammar,<br />

listening and speaking, Test of Written English (TWE), reading and vocabulary, and the TOEFL guidelines and procedures.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ESL 085 with a C or better, or required score on the ESL assessment test.<br />

ENV 105 Humanity and the Environment<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Technical, sociocultural, and political information on environmental science and technology for non-ENV majors. Includes<br />

ecosystems, population impacts, hydrological systems, air pollution, and environmental toxins. Also includes current topics<br />

such as the green house effect, acid rain, drinking water contamination, toxic waste spills, governmental regulation and<br />

enforcement, and future environmental trends.<br />

Corequisite(s): ENV 105LB<br />

ENV 105LB Humanity and the Environment Discovery Laboratory<br />

1 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lab)<br />

Laboratory exercise and field trip experiences as applied to the relationship between humanity and the environment.<br />

Includes examining ecology and biodiversity, healthy carrying capacity models, and waste by-products and their sources.<br />

Also includes designing pollution prevention and sustainable campus/town models, developing increased environmental<br />

ethics in our society, and anthropological relationships to the environment.<br />

Corequisite(s): ENV 105<br />

This laboratory course satisfies the fourth credit hour of the Biological and Physical Science general education transfer<br />

credit if taken along with ENV 105.<br />
