Advanced study of a particular Veterinary Science subject or subjects to hone skills while working in an independent format.<br />

Content of study and its manner of execution must be developed through mutual agreement between the student and<br />

Introduction into the role of the veterinary technician careers and career paths, legal applications, ethical responsibilities,<br />

professional attitudes, medical terminology, and occupational safety issues. Also includes breed identification of domestic<br />

animals, behavioral characteristics of animals, human-animal bonding, and dealing with pet loss.<br />

Corequisite(s): VET 110, VET 130, VET 225<br />

VET 106 Veterinary Practice Assistant I<br />

Introduction to the basic skills needed to assist veterinary professionals in the quality care of animals. Includes animal<br />

restraint, nursing, vaccinations and other basic assisting skills.<br />

Introduction into the role of the veterinary practice assistant in the veterinary medicine profession. Includes careers and<br />

career paths, legal applications, ethical responsibilities, professional attitudes, medical terminology, and occupational<br />

safety issues. Also includes standard office procedures with an emphasis in client relations and education and computer<br />

skills, breed identification of domestic animals, behavioral characteristics of animals, human-animal bonding, and dealing<br />

with pet loss.<br />

VET 110 Veterinary Nursing Procedures I<br />

Introduction to veterinary nursing techniques. Includes physical examination, history taking, injections, preventative<br />

health care, basic nutrition and animal restraint. Also includes husbandry techniques, kennel management and sanitation<br />

of kennel facilities for dogs and cats.<br />
