Principles of effective writing and listening skills. Includes language development, verbal and nonverbal communications,<br />

customer relations, and writing and editing correspondence.<br />

Prerequisite(s): OAP 151.<br />

Information: Prerequisite may be waived depending on work experience. See an OAP instructor for prerequisite<br />

OAP 263 Medical Terminology for Disease Pathology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of disease processes and their effects on the systems of the human body. Includes introduction to diseases,<br />

anatomy and physiology, inflammation and immunity, infectious diseases, neoplasms, hereditary diseases, nutritional<br />

diseases, and diseases of the organs and body system.<br />

Prerequisite(s): OAP 262.<br />

OAP 264 Medical Transcription II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Continuation of OAP 164. Includes punctuation, capitalization, numbers, figures, abbreviations, business letter<br />

transcription, proofreading, spelling, word division and reference books.<br />

Prerequisite(s): OAP 164, and 262.<br />

Recommendation: Keyboarding at 50 WPM is recommended before enrolling in this course.<br />

OAP 266 Medical Transcription III<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Continuation of OAP 264. Includes advanced training in punctuation, capitalization, rules, medical correspondence,<br />

proofreading, prefixes and suffixes, transcription, and medical terms.<br />

Prerequisite(s): OAP 264.<br />

Recommendation: Keyboarding at 60 WPM is recommended before enrolling in this course.<br />

OAP 297S1 Administrative Support Seminar<br />

Introduction to Cooperative Education for second-year students (instruction which provides for success in securing and<br />

retaining a training job related to subject area). Social and psychological reasons for working, methods of securing<br />

employment, preparation of career and job-related objectives and evaluation of student work experience.<br />
