DLT 104 Dental Occlusion<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the principles of techniques used in the dental laboratory. Includes how to trace and label all aspects of the<br />

maxillary and mandibular teeth, control of inlay wax application, restoring occlusal surfaces and clinical crowns to ideal<br />

occlusion, functional occlusion on articulated casts, and philosophies of different wax added systems.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DLT 101.<br />

DLT 105 Partial Denture Construction<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Construction of removable partial dentures (RPDs). Includes evaluation and fabrication of preliminary impressions and<br />

models, model survey and RPD design, evaluation and fabrication of final impressions and master models, block out<br />

procedures, model duplication and refractory casts, creating wax patterns, spruing and investing frameworks, burnout and<br />

alloy casts, and recovery of RPD casting. Also includes metal finishing and polishing, occlusion rims, prosthetic tooth<br />

selection and tooth setting, processing and finishing the RPD, and soldering of dental alloys.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DLT 101 or concurrent enrollment.<br />

Construction and theory of simple orthodontic appliances. Includes evaluation of preliminary impressions and fabrication of<br />

orthodontic study models, model trimming and evaluation, classification of occlusion and malocclusion types, tooth<br />

numbering systems and identification, wrought wire fabrication, application of wire bending skills, fabrication of removable<br />

tooth retaining and moving appliances, and fixed space maintaining appliances.<br />

DLT 108 Laboratory Management<br />

Examination of the principles of dental laboratory management. Includes blood born pathogens, infection control<br />

guidelines and procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations for dental laboratories, post<br />

exposure plan, legal and ethical aspects of the industry, history of dentistry, National Association of Dental Laboratories,<br />

and establishing a dental laboratory.<br />
