DAR 115 Digital Video Editing<br />

4 cr. hrs. 5 periods (3 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Introduction to non-linear editing on the computer. historical development, digital video and audio formats, techniques and<br />

theory of editing, aspect ratios, organization of the edit, desktop environment, importing digital elements project<br />

organization, video and audio files, non-linear editing skills, applying transitions, designing titles, applying filters, digital<br />

and time line effects, importing graphics, mixing audio and video elements, synchronize sound with video, and exporting<br />

digital video projects. Includes historical development, digital video and audio formats, techniques and theory of editing,<br />

DAR 120 Applied Computer Graphics<br />

Introduction to current computer graphics software. Includes current software, desktop publishing documents, postscript<br />

illustration documents, painting or photo editing documents, file creation using computer software applications, computer<br />

graphics hardware, and professional environment.<br />

DAR 122 DeskTop Graphics: Adobe Illustrator<br />

4 cr. hrs. 5 periods (3 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Computer generated graphics and illustrations. Includes current Adobe Illustrator software, computer graphics hardware,<br />

documents, and professional environment.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DAR 051, 120.<br />

DAR 124 Writing for Film and Television<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examining dramatic writing in visual mediums and creating the story for the screen. Includes visual storytelling, story<br />

structure, directors, cinematographers, and how screenwriters work. Also includes writing scenes, finishing stories, and<br />

writing for television.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DAR 103.<br />

Information: Concurrent enrollment may be approved with instructor or department chair recommendation.<br />

DAR 125 Digital Video Production I<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Principles and techniques of video production. Includes history of digital video, digital video camera and computer<br />

equipment, digital camera lenses, exposure. Light, color, temperature, composition, portfolio preparation, and career<br />

options. Also includes practical experience as part of a digital video production team.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DAR 115 and 124.<br />

DAR 127 Sound Production for Radio<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Methods and techniques of the operation of radio broadcasting equipment. Includes the tools for sound production for<br />

radio, the console, turntables and compact disc (CD) players, tape recording and playback units, microphones and sound,<br />

techniques, applications, drama and dramatic elements, and commercial production. Also includes radio production news<br />

and public affairs programs; remote, sports, and advanced production; computer applications in radio; and production in<br />

modern format.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DAR 103, 124.<br />

Information: This course will require additional expenses for supplies in addition to course and lab fees.<br />

DAR 128 Digital Photography I<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Introduction to digital photography as an art form with an emphasis on fundamental techniques of the digital camera and<br />

the digital darkroom. Includes digital cameras with manual functions, digital darkroom, digital printing, studio lighting,<br />

image composition, portfolio development, and critical analysis. Also includes the use of state-of-the-art professional<br />

quality computers and image processing software, professional digital cameras and printers, and a lighting studio with<br />

professional lighting equipment.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of DAR 051 or experience in computer skills before enrolling in this course.<br />

Information:<br />

Same as ART 128.<br />

Students are strongly recommended to own or have access to a digital camera with manual exposure control and access<br />

to a computer with image processing software. Cameras and professional quality computers and software will be<br />

provided during the course. Professional quality cameras, printers, lighting equipment and studio will be provided for<br />

specific assignments. There may be additional supply costs in addition to course fees.<br />
