MGT 110 Human Relations in Business and Industry<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of the most basic forms of human relations as it relates to business and industry. Includes the roles of the<br />

employees, supervisors, and management, management concepts and functions, communication, managing change and<br />

stress, human motivation, building relationships, and supervising groups. Also includes leadership and management<br />

styles, selection, orientation, training, and appraisal, discipline, complaints, grievances, and working with the union, and<br />

security, safety, and health at work.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.<br />

MGT 122 Supervision<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Theories and concepts of supervision. Includes the role of the supervisor, management concepts and functions,<br />

communication, managing change and stress, human motivation, building relationships, supervision of groups, leadership<br />

and management styles, selection, orientation, training, appraisal, and discipline. Also includes complaints, grievances,<br />

working with the union, security, safety, and health at work.<br />

Information: This course consists of study and application. The student will first review all of the major concepts in<br />

supervision. The student will then utilize all of the major concepts presented to examine and evaluate a series of case<br />

studies. At the end of the course, a final and cumulative case study will be evaluated.<br />

Recommendation: It is recommended that students complete MGT 110 before enrolling in this course.<br />

MGT 124 Small Business Management<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Analysis of the practical problems of organizing, managing and starting a small business. Includes introduction and<br />

overview, selecting employees, forms of ownership, managing the business, business plan, pricing, managing cash flow,<br />

creating sales forecast, income statements, breakeven analysis, source of funds, international operations, contract, risk,<br />

and international opportunities.<br />

MGT 130 Improving Customer Service Quality<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Exploration of customer service quality in a variety of product and service arenas. Includes customer/supplier interactions,<br />

quality indicators, costs of service quality, guidelines for quality service improvement, pitfalls or danger signs, service<br />

quality benchmarking process, variation, introductory tools for service quality improvement, and quality training.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CSA 100 before enrolling in this course.<br />

MGT 210 Environmental Decisions for Business and Industry<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Overview of environmental issues and related decisions pertaining to business and industry. Includes government<br />

relationships, the role of the business office, the design and engineering of buildings, case studies on operational<br />

decisions, entrepreneurial opportunities, and related ethics.<br />

MGT 230 Dynamics of Leadership<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Training in leadership philosophy and application. Includes the changing nature of leadership, vision and mission, strategic<br />

planning, team building and group dynamics, managing conflict, anticipating and responding to change, complex systems,<br />

multiculturalism, ethics, power and privilege, self-assessment of leadership skills and characteristics, personal definition<br />

and philosophy, wellness and renewal, communication skills, presentation and facilitation skills, and designing and<br />

completing a leadership project.<br />

MGT 270 Computer Applications for Managers<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Development of management skills in computer applications for business. Includes state of computing technology,<br />

electronic commerce and the economy, international issues, work and the virtual workplace, project management, and<br />

presentations<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CSA 101 or proficiency with Microsoft Office software before enrolling in this course.<br />
