CTE 200 Principles and Philosophy of Career and Technical Education<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to Career and Technical Education (CTE). Includes an historical overview, principles and components, the<br />

roles of CTE teachers, and distinctive features of CTE such as student organizations, advisory committees, and work-based<br />

learning. Also includes current CTE legislation, related funding, the need for CTE, issues and trends, and relationships to<br />

both the teaching-learning process and educational reform.<br />

CTE 210 Methods of Teaching Career and Technical Education<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to instructional classroom management and assessment strategies pertinent to teaching in the secondary<br />

schools. Includes the role and function of the teacher in a CTE classroom, laboratory, or shop, standards-based instruction,<br />

constructing lesson plans, assessment, instructional strategies, and serving special needs students.<br />

CTE 270 CTE Instructional Technology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to educational technology exploring the current and emerging technologies available to teachers. Includes<br />

theoretical foundations of educational technology, technology enhanced instruction, digital technologies for the classroom,<br />

and an overview of productivity, school and classroom management software.<br />

CTE 275 CTE Classroom, Laboratory, and Shop Management<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to managing the CTE classroom, laboratory, shop and instructional environments. Includes how to create a<br />

safe learning environment, design classroom and laboratory procedures, and develop an effective classroom management<br />

plan. Also includes how teachers will implement organizational systems to manage work-based learning experiences,<br />

student records, learning experiences, student records, supplies, equipment, tools, finances and facilities.<br />

CTE 281 Advanced Methods of Teaching Career and Technical Education<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to Structured English Immersion (SEI) methods designed to meet state standards for pre-service and inservice<br />

teachers of English Language Learners (ELL). Includes an examination of ELL proficiency standards, assessment of<br />

ELLs, SEI foundations and strategies, using disaggregated data to differentiate instruction and parental involvement.<br />

Information:<br />

This course is designed for CTE teachers (Grades 7-12) and administrators.<br />

Meets ESL Endorsement and SEI Endorsement requirements in conjunction with other coursework.<br />

Also meets Arizona Department of Education course requirements.<br />
