COMPUTER SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS<br />

CSA 101 Computer Fundamentals<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Overview of computer applications and functions. Includes historical significance of the computer, Internet fundamentals,<br />

components of a computer system, spreadsheet, database, and word processing use within a workplace.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CSA 089 or basic computer and keyboard skills, completion of REA 091 or satisfactory<br />

score on the reading assessment test before enrolling in this course.<br />

Information: CSA 101 meets occupational general education computer and information literacy requirements and is a<br />

three credit version of CSA 100.<br />

CSA 107 Computer Communications and Systems for Business<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Overview of computer operating procedures. Includes hardware; software; the Internet and World Wide Web;<br />

communications, networks, and servers; database management; computer ethics and issues; information system<br />

development; and computer careers.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CSA 101.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.<br />

CSA 110 Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Fundamentals of spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel. Includes spreadsheet concepts, Excel Lists, and advanced<br />

formulas, functions and filtering. Also includes formatting worksheets and cells, working with charts and graphics,<br />

managing multiple worksheets and workbooks, collaborating on a workbook, developing an Excel application, managing<br />

data tables and Scenarios, using Solver, and importing data.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of MAT 086 or required score on the Mathematics assessment test, completion of CSA<br />

089 or basic computer skills, completion of REA 091 or required score on the Reading assessment test before enrolling in<br />

this course.<br />

CSA 110A Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel Module A<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1.34 periods (.67 lec., .67 lab)<br />

Spreadsheets applications using Microsoft Excel at the beginning level. Includes spreadsheet concepts, formulas and<br />

functions, formatting worksheets and cells, and working with charts and graphics.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of MAT 086 or required score on the Mathematics assessment test, completion of CSA<br />

089 or basic computer skills, completion of REA 091 or required score on the Reading assessment test before enrolling in<br />

this course.<br />

Information: CSA 110A, 110B, and 110C together constitute CSA 110.<br />

CSA 110B Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel Module B<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1.34 periods (.67 lec., .67 lab)<br />

Continuation of CSA 110A. Includes spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel at the intermediate level. Also includes<br />

Excel Lists, managing multiple worksheets and workbooks, collaborating on a workbook, and developing an Excel<br />

application.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CSA 110A.<br />

Information: CSA 110A, 110B, and 110C together constitute CSA 110.<br />

CSA 110C Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel Module C<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1.32 periods (.66 lec., .66 lab)<br />

Continuation of CSA 110B. Includes spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel at the advanced level. Also includes<br />

data tables and Scenario management, using Solver, importing data, and advanced functions and filtering.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CSA 110B.<br />

Information: CSA 110A, 110B, and 110C together constitute CSA 110.<br />

CSA 120 Word Processing: Word<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Word processing concepts using Microsoft Word. Includes creating and editing documents, and using character and<br />

paragraph formatting, tables, styles, templates, and macros, merge, multiple-columnar formats, internet basics, creating<br />

and using advanced styles, templates, and forms, working with graphics in documents, working with large documents,<br />

determining document layout, and sharing documents.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CSA 089 or basic computer skills, completion of REA 091 or required score on the<br />

Reading assessment test, completion of OAP 111A or keyboarding by touching at 30 wpm before enrolling in this course.<br />
