Founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham, the school is located in<br />

the historic Georgian market town of Holt near the north<br />

Norfolk coast; an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and<br />

<strong>World</strong> Heritage site. The school is easily accessible by road<br />

with intercity rail and international air connections at<br />

Norwich, 40 minutes away. Our warm community, committed<br />

staff, wide range of opportunities, outstanding facilities and<br />

rural environment, combine to provide a unique educational<br />

experience. Gresham’s is primarily a full boarding school with<br />

all the associated benefits of academic and sporting<br />

excellence in addition to a wide range of extracurricular<br />

activities.<br />

Our alumni have made significant contributions to human<br />

endeavour. Poets W H Auden and Sir Stephen Spender,<br />

composer Lord Benjamin Britten and theatre director Sir Peter<br />

Brook have had a profound effect on the arts; Lord Reith and<br />

Sir John Tusa have been innovative in the field of media and<br />

communication; hovercraft inventor Sir Christopher<br />

Cockerell, entrepreneur Sir James Dyson and Nobel Prize<br />

winner Sir Alan Lloyd Hodgkin have had an equally significant<br />

influence on science and technology.<br />

wholeheartedly involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award<br />

Scheme from its beginning, we have a well supported<br />

Combined Cadet Force and a strong and varied programme of<br />

both individual and team sports, which allow students to<br />

engage in a healthy and active lifestyle. Visual and performing<br />

arts are particularly well resourced and students have a wide<br />

range of opportunities to express their creativity.<br />

We offer the following <strong>IB</strong> subjects at higher and standard<br />

level: English A: literature, English A: language & literature,<br />

German A: language & literature; French B, German B, Latin,<br />

Mandarin ab initio SL, Spanish B; business & management,<br />

economics, geography, history, psychology; biology,<br />

chemistry, physics, environmental systems & societies SL;<br />

music, theatre arts, visual arts; mathematics, maths studies. A<br />

one year pre-<strong>IB</strong> course is available to students who require an<br />

accelerated learning environment before entering the <strong>IB</strong><br />

Diploma Programme. Our academic results are outstanding.<br />

Our <strong>IB</strong> diploma graduates consistently average 34 points and<br />

100% of our diploma graduates go onto further education.<br />
