The Dwight School, founded in 1872, is an internationally
recognized college preparatory school with a rich tradition of
academic excellence and a commitment to educating
responsible global citizens. While two-thirds of our
population is from New York, the other third draws students
from nearly 40 countries. Approximately 25 countries are
represented in the faculty. This mix of different minds and
different perspectives leads to great learning and selfdiscovery.
Dwight is one of only two independent schools in
Manhattan to offer the prestigious International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and was the first in North
America to offer the IB from preschool to grade twelve.
The IB is recognized as the ‘gold standard’ of academic rigor
throughout the world, and Dwight is an acknowledged leader
in IB education. Through the IB programmes, Dwight delivers
on its mission to educate internationally minded individuals
who will become caring, principled leaders. Dwight students
are encouraged to dare to dream, to take intellectual risks,
and to build their leadership skills through action. Three

Global Vision – Dwight encourages its students to see the
world from a global perspective. As members of an IB
community, Dwight students are participants in a global
network of interconnected learners at over 4000 schools
around the world. In addition to its New York campus, the
Dwight family of schools has associated campuses in London,
Beijing, Seoul, and Vancouver Island. Like Dwight, these
schools follow the IB philosophy, and Dwight students enjoy a
diverse range of educational opportunities provided by its
global school network. Dwight offers 13 languages, with
immersion language programs from the age of two.

Community Service – Dwight aims to inspire and educate

every element of the school community. In addition to
providing students with numerous community service
programs and opportunities, Dwight also founded the
Institute for Civic Leadership (ICL), a premier training course
designed to educate future leaders. Dwight has been
recognized as being at the forefront of service learning.
Dwight has a comprehensive college guidance program that
has consistently placed students at leading universities in the
United States and around the world. Recent Dwight graduates
have attended Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke,
Edinburgh, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, McGill, New York
University, Oxford, Stanford, the University of Michigan, the
University of Pennsylvania, the University of Toronto, and the
University of Southern California.
Dwight is also accredited by the European Council of
International Schools and the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools. Financial aid is granted on
the basis of need and academic promise.
