Curriculum
Students follow the International Baccalaureate
programmes, starting at aged 3 with the Primary Years
Programme, moving onto the Middle Years Programme at age
11 and the Diploma Programme at age 16. The programmes
are designed to encourage the development of learning skills
and to meet a child’s academic, social, physical, emotional
and cultural needs. Through enquiry based learning and
various disciplines, subject interrelatedness is accentuated,
preparing students for the pre-university IB Diploma
Programme. Within the IB Diploma Programme students
must study six subjects, a research project, leading to a 4000
word essay, the theory of knowledge course, and creativity,
action, service (CAS). The CAS programme is a fundamental
part of the IB Diploma Programme.
Entry Requirements
Kindergarten and Lower School (ages 2-11): students are
invited to attend for half a day and may be asked to complete a
basic assessment. Upper School (ages 11-15): students are
interviewed by the Head of the school, invited to visit the
school for a day and may be required to complete a basic
assessment. IB Diploma Programme applicants are invited for
interview with the programme coordinator. Students would be
expected to have five or six GCSE passes, with B, A or A* grades
for subjects to be studied at higher level.
Aims and Objectives of the School
The school aims to create a secure, well-ordered and
happy environment with the learning process at its core with
emphasis placed on the successful development of the
whole individual. Importance is placed on students learning
to work as team members and, where appropriate, as
leaders. The school serves a cosmopolitan community of
both local and international students. Empathy and
understanding of differing cultures, religions and
backgrounds are encouraged.
The school recognises that students can have a variety of
different learning styles. The Quest Programme is designed
for students who need help developing strategies to assist
them to study effectively. Through one-to-one tuition from
specialist staff in skills such as effective reading, time
management, planning of work and revision and exam
techniques, students can reach their full potential, further
enhanced by the school’s teacher-student ratio.
Students at The North London International School receive a
thorough preparation for university and adult life, with skills
in learning independently, leadership, adapting confidently to
new situations and becoming active members of an
international society.
