Sekolah Pilar Indonesia (SPI) was established in 2005 to
provide an international standard education for local children.
The founders’ vision to underpin an international perspective
with Indonesian cultural values became a reality when the
International Baccalaureate was chosen. The school has been
authorized to teach the PYP since June 2011 and is currently
interested in the MYP.
The majority of the students at the school are of Indonesian
heritage and they represent a diverse range of cultural groups.
The school’s vision, which is to be an outstanding school with
an Indonesian cultural identity by providing an effective
learning environment that enables students to be
independent, to be highly principled and to appreciate
diversity, is very closely aligned with the IB vision and is the
basis of all aspects of school life.
The facilities at Sekolah Pilar Indonesia are excellent and
include an indoor swimming pool, an extensive library, a radio
station, computer laboratory, school plantation, music studio
and playing fields.
The school subscribes to a Reduce, Recycle, Reuse
philosophy and this is adhered to in a creative way.

The co-curricular programme is available for students of all
ages and is supported enthusiastically by students and
parents.
In the primary school classes are small and there are two
teachers per class working collaboratively. This allows
teachers to differentiate according to students’ individual
needs, and to assist those who need language support.
Mother tongue development is an essential component of the
curriculum and students move towards becoming truly
bilingual. Single subject teachers handle small groups of
students in the junior and senior high schools.
Sekolah Pilar Indonesia is open to establishing exchange
programmes with other schools around the globe. Since
establishing a relationship with Le Fevre High School in
Adelaide, South Australia, where Indonesian is the additional
language, the resultant intercultural understandings have
enhanced both programmes.
The school ethos is welcoming and the community
celebrates cultural and religious differences. Students are
responsible for their own learning and enthusiastically
embrace new experiences.
