Berlin Brandenburg International School (BBIS) is an
inclusive, coeducational English-language day and boarding
school serving the internationally-minded community of
Germany’s capital region and beyond. The BBIS campus is
located in the village of Kleinmachnow, bordering the southwest
of Berlin, on a large, quiet, wooded hill along the
Machnower See.
Founded in 1990, BBIS is the first IB school in the world to be
fully authorized by the International Baccalaureate
organization to teach all three IB programmes and the IB
Career-related Certificate (IBCC) covering the 3-to-19 age
range. The school is also fully accredited by the Council of
International Schools (CIS) and the Middle States Association
of Colleges and Schools (MSA).
The extensive facilities at BBIS include four large buildings
of red brick that house classrooms, offices, and faculty and
student lounges; a pavilion with additional workrooms and
classrooms focusing on the arts; a world-class sports field and
brand-new sports hall; and a performance and exhibition
space. A playground for the elementary school students and
one for the middle and high school students reside between
the academic buildings.

From early childhood to grade 12, BBIS is truly an
international school, with 700 students representing 60
nationalities. BBIS teachers are certified, experienced
professionals from all over the world, with the greatest
representation from the United States of America, the United
Kingdom, and Germany.
Classes are small, usually with fewer than 18 students.
Specific support is provided for students with special needs
and those for whom English is not a first language. In grades
11 and 12, students have the opportunity to earn the IB
diploma or the new IBCC.
BBIS is committed to providing an extracurricular
programme that helps students of all ages develop holistically
as well-rounded people. Each term about 50 activities are
offered, such as sailing, dance/drama, mathematics,
newspaper, human rights club, soccer, karate, climbing,
archery, watercolour painting, instrumental ensemble, and
student council.
BBIS Boarding School, located directly on the school
campus, houses 30 international students from grades 6
through 12. It is the first international, English-language IB
World Boarding School in all of Germany.
