Lincoln Park High School, founded in 1899, is a Chicago
public high school that offers a very successful IB Diploma
Programme within the context of a college preparatory school
for students of all ability levels. Students living in our
attendance area or anywhere within the Chicago city limits
can make application to Lincoln Park’s Magnet Programs,
which include the IB Diploma Programme, an Honors/Double
Honors/Advanced Placement Program, and a Performing Arts
Program with concentrations available in drama, band, string
instruments, and vocal music. After admission, any student
may elect vocal or instrumental music. Special consideration
for admission is extended to students from other IB schools
and to international students from the business and
diplomatic communities. Fluent/bilingual French students
can participate in a special program (EFAC) that can include
preparation for DELF or the French Baccalaureate in addition
to college prep, AP, and/or IB classes. All students with special
needs are supported in their college preparatory classes by a
full special services program.
Newsweek magazine has ranked Lincoln Park as one of the
top 100 high schools in the US and for the last five years US
News & World Report awarded the school gold and silver medal
rankings.
Its staff places high value on rigor, mutual respect and
creativity, while encouraging students in both their academic
and extracurricular activities to develop their talents and
interests to the full. Personal excellence, a willingness to
challenge oneself, inventiveness, and a can-do spirit are at the
core of Lincoln Park’s culture.
Approximately 450 students participate in the IB. Students
come from over 80 countries and speak more than 60 different
languages at home. A significant number of students in the IB
Diploma Programme were born in other countries, are firstgeneration
in this country, or the children of internationals.
Within this diverse context students acquire insight into
others and the leadership skills needed in a global society.
A wide variety of extracurricular activities (50) and
interscholastic sports opportunities (currently 26) are
available for all students. IB students are active in sports,
drama, music, art, school clubs, and local organizations.
Many do community service beyond the CAS requirement and
are active in their individual churches, synagogues, and
mosques. In addition to their work in their classes, all Lincoln
Park students participate in a number of academic
competitions in writing, history, experimental science,
literature, social issues, world languages, and the fine and
performing arts; many have gone on to the national and
international levels of these competitions. Every year, the
boys’ and girls’ athletic teams win division and sectional
championships, and the music program regularly earns
superior ratings in competitions and is currently is ranked as
the #2 music program in the state of Illinois.
Since 1984 approximately 86% of the IB students have
gained the diploma on completion of the IB Diploma
Programme. Lincoln Park enjoys an outstanding record of
university acceptances both in the US and internationally.
