St Brendan’s Sixth Form College is situated on the outskirts of
the bustling city of Bristol and only ten miles from the heritage
city of Bath. The college boasts university campus style
facilities with a recent investment of £20 million in building
and facilities for all subjects. Consistently high exam results
are reflected in the college’s reputation. A recent Ofsted
inspection report states: ‘Students are encouraged and
inspired by their teachers to aim for high standards.’
The academic achievement is balanced with a breadth of
enrichment opportunities that include, sport, music, art,
drama, community service, and action groups. An active
Students’ Union provides social activities and a forum for
student voice. The community feel of the college is supported
throughout all college activities where each student is treated
as an individual and as a unique creation, in an environment
that promotes respect for all whatever their race, religion or
background.
Students following the International Baccalaureate attend
college alongside students taking A level courses and BTEC
qualifications. IB students have their own base room within
the college complex and enjoy small teaching groups within
their subjects. Students leave St Brendan’s with a breadth of
experience and are well prepared for their next step in life. A
comprehensive careers programme supports the decisionmaking
and application process, be it to university or work.
All subjects are taught in English although speakers of other
languages may study their own language as an alternative to
the language option. Currently the subjects on offer are
English, French, Spanish, Spanish ab initio, history,
psychology, business and management, biology, chemistry,
environmental studies, mathematics, mathematic studies,
visual arts and film studies. Further subjects will be
introduced as demand for the International Baccalaureate
Diploma Programme increases. An equivalent programme is
offered for St Brendan’s students at St Bede’s Catholic College
in Lawrence Weston, Bristol.
St Brendan’s attracts a diverse cohort of students to the
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and prides
