Lauriston Girls’ School is an independent nondenominational
school for girls from kindergarten to Year 12.
Founded in 1901, Lauriston has a proud tradition of excellence
in educational, sporting and cultural pursuits.
Lauriston comprises kindergarten for 3 and 4-year old boys
and girls, based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy; junior
school with an emphasis on numeracy and literacy; the unique
Year 9 Howqua Program, a residential year at the magnificent
Howqua campus in the Victorian high country; and senior
college, where students choose from the Victorian Certificate
of Education (VCE) or the globally-recognised International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The Armadale campus is located close to the city centre in one
of Melbourne’s attractive tree-lined suburbs. The facilities are
modern and well-equipped and convenient to public transport.
Lauriston has an open entry policy where all students are
welcome to study the IB Diploma Programme or the local
curriculum. Lauriston’s academic results are outstanding:
40% of the 2010 IB Diploma Programme class achieved a score
of 40+. Since the introduction of the IB in 1991, Lauriston has
had 18 perfect diploma scores; four in the 2010 examinations
(a remarkable result), one each in the 2009 and 2008
examinations, and two in the 2007 examinations.

and drama and community service. Lauriston is an
internationally minded school that encourages cultural
exchange and welcomes students from all over the world.

Our students support several community organisations and
participate in projects designed to benefit the community.
One such project, initiated by the students themselves, is
Lauries’ Books, a service providing books to homeless people.
IB Diploma Programme subjects offered are English A1,
Chinese A1, Mandarin B, French B, Spanish ab initio,
economics, history, geography, biology, chemistry, physics,
mathematics, mathematical studies, visual arts, music,
theatre and other languages by arrangement. Many students
are successfully studying Chinese, Thai or Korean as their first
language and English as their second.
