The International School of Luxembourg is a coeducational,
university-preparatory school with 1076 students aged 3 to 18,
centrally located in the city of Luxembourg, capital of the
Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Founded in 1963, the school is a
member of both the European Council and Council of
International Schools and has been an authorized IB World
School since 1994. The school is accredited by the Council of
International Schools and the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools. The International School of
Luxembourg’s mission is to provide an outstanding education
in a caring international environment, inspiring all our
students to reach their true potential and to act as responsible
participants in a global society.
In 2011, ISL’s IB students averaged 32 points with several
students achieving over 40 points. 95% of our students go on
to study at universities around the world, including the United
Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, France, Germany,
Ireland, The Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. ISL
welcomes students from more than 45 different countries with
the majority coming from continental Europe. Presently, the
countries with the largest enrolment are the USA and the UK.
The International School of Luxembourg provides many
opportunities for students to reach their true potential with a
wide range of extracurricular activities offered, including
sports, music, debate and drama. Students also produce a
school newspaper and yearbook and have been instrumental
in establishing the Global Issues Network, which raises
awareness about and encourages action with current global
issues. ISL has recently become the European Bureau for the
newly developed News Action Network, which is an
international online student news collaboration that seeks to
address global issues through community-based journalism.
These activities allow students to meet other international
school students and to participate in enriching school trips.
Each year, the school also takes groups of IB students to both
Tanzania and Turkey as part of their CAS programmes as well
as encouraging them to participate in service activities within
the local community. ISL supports charity initiatives in
Burundi, Ethiopia, Thailand and Zimbabwe and students
actively engage in fundraising for these projects.
ISL offers the following IB subjects: English, French and
German A and B, French ab Initio, history, geography, economics,
business and management, biology, chemistry, physics,
mathematics, visual arts, theatre, music and film (2010).
