Scots College is an independent Presybterian boys’ day and
boarding school, Years 1-13, located in Wellington, New Zealand.
History
Founded in 1916, Scots College has a proud history and
reputation for providing a world-class education for boys. The
rigorous academic curriculum is supported by a diverse range
of sporting and cultural opportunities, enabling each student
to reach their potential in all aspects of their lives.
Location
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand – a harbour city at
the heart of government, the centre of business, home to
international embassies and renowned for its vibrant city
culture and cosmopolitan population of 180,000 centrally,
and 450,000 within the region. The Scots College campus is
located in the suburb of Strathmore, just ten mins drive to the
central city, two mins to the airport and neighbours the
suburb of Miramar (home to the now world-famous film
studios, Weta Workshop, makers of The Lord of The Rings).
School Structure
The college is comprised of three schools; preparatory (Years
1-6), middle (Years 7-10) and senior (Years 11-13) and is an
authorized IB World School. The IB programme is an integral
part of the school’s ethos and focus on providing a global
education.
Education Qualifications
Scots College is unique in providing a dual pathway
education in the senior school (Years 12-13); where students
can choose to study via either the IB diploma or New Zealand’s
National Certificate of Education Achievement system
(NCEA), in which Scots College achieved a 96% Level 3 NCEA
pass rate in 2010 – an outstanding achievement.
International Language Programs
In 2012 Scots College will teach Mandarin, Japanese,
Spanish, English and French. Additional language courses (eg
Maori) are also available by correspondence.
Boarding School
The boarding school (Years 9-13) provides accommodation
and care for 62 students annually and is at the centre of the
school community. There are currently 23 international
students at Scots College however 34 nationalities are
represented within the school community. In addition, there
are a number of opportunities for students to travel nationally
and internationally through sporting, cultural and community
service exchange programs.
