Scots College is an independent Presybterian boys’ day and<br />

boarding school, Years 1-13, located in Wellington, New Zealand.<br />

History<br />

Founded in 1916, Scots College has a proud history and<br />

reputation for providing a world-class education for boys. The<br />

rigorous academic curriculum is supported by a diverse range<br />

of sporting and cultural opportunities, enabling each student<br />

to reach their potential in all aspects of their lives.<br />

Location<br />

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand – a harbour city at<br />

the heart of government, the centre of business, home to<br />

international embassies and renowned for its vibrant city<br />

culture and cosmopolitan population of 180,000 centrally,<br />

and 450,000 within the region. The Scots College campus is<br />

located in the suburb of Strathmore, just ten mins drive to the<br />

central city, two mins to the airport and neighbours the<br />

suburb of Miramar (home to the now world-famous film<br />

studios, Weta Workshop, makers of The Lord of The Rings).<br />

School Structure<br />

The college is comprised of three schools; preparatory (Years<br />

1-6), middle (Years 7-10) and senior (Years 11-13) and is an<br />

authorized <strong>IB</strong> <strong>World</strong> School. The <strong>IB</strong> programme is an integral<br />

part of the school’s ethos and focus on providing a global<br />

education.<br />

Education Qualifications<br />

Scots College is unique in providing a dual pathway<br />

education in the senior school (Years 12-13); where students<br />

can choose to study via either the <strong>IB</strong> diploma or New Zealand’s<br />

National Certificate of Education Achievement system<br />

(NCEA), in which Scots College achieved a 96% Level 3 NCEA<br />

pass rate in 2010 – an outstanding achievement.<br />

International Language Programs<br />

In 2012 Scots College will teach Mandarin, Japanese,<br />

Spanish, English and French. Additional language courses (eg<br />

Maori) are also available by correspondence.<br />

Boarding School<br />

The boarding school (Years 9-13) provides accommodation<br />

and care for 62 students annually and is at the centre of the<br />

school community. There are currently 23 international<br />

students at Scots College however 34 nationalities are<br />

represented within the school community. In addition, there<br />

are a number of opportunities for students to travel nationally<br />

and internationally through sporting, cultural and community<br />

service exchange programs.<br />
