The Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) is a
future-orientated school with a diverse and compassionate
community. We are authorised to offer the International
Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Diploma
Programme, and are in candidate status for authorisation to
offer the Middle Years Programme. Our goal is for each child
to enter the world as a well-balanced global citizen with a
desire to contribute to the future as a leader.
WISS is situated in the west of Shanghai, China, on a
spacious 16 acre campus, near to many popular housing
compounds in the expatriate community. Our facilities
include a football field, running track, basketball court,
baseball diamond, gymnasium, swimming pool, art studios,
black-box theatre, café, science laboratories, music studios,
dance studio, community room, and purpose-built facility for
early years learners – as well as open-plan, bright classrooms,
and a brand new glass-walled library where visitors and
students alike can come to learn and be together.

cultures offering a truly international learning environment,
while still fostering host-country awareness through our
Mandarin language and literature classes. We are not in an
expat bubble out of sight of the local community in Shanghai,
but are a part of it. Our community service programmes
enable our young people to help others and by doing so
acquire a greater understanding of what it means to be an
inspiration to those around them. Whether our students are
with us for a year or two, or stay through to graduation and
move on to the university of their dreams, we want our young
people to look back on WISS as a time when their love to learn
was awakened and they began to touch the lives of those
around them.

broaden the minds of the children in our care, and deepen
their sense of understanding and wonder. WISS prizes
