King Edward’s School is situated in extensive grounds in the heart
of the beautiful Surrey countryside, but is only 12 miles from
Guildford and 45 miles from London. Easy access to the school is
provided by road and rail, as the local mainline station to London
is only five minutes’ walk away. The school is 45 minutes by car
from both Heathrow and Gatwick international airports.
Founded in 1553, King Edward’s is steeped in history, but
combines its traditional strengths with a modern outlook. The
school is proud to be one of the first English boarding schools
in the area to offer the IB Diploma Programme. Since
introduction pupils have achieved close to a 100% success rate
and with an average points score of 34 over the last five years
we are amongst the top IB schools in the country and in the
top 10 of coeducational IB schools. King Edward’s also offers a
one year pre-IB programme that provides overseas students an
opportunity to improve their English language skills and try
all the IB subjects on offer, which allows them to make more
informed subject choices when they come to start the IB
diploma course.
The rigour of the programme is strongly supported by King
Edward’s excellent academic facilities. The library is well
resourced and students have access throughout the school and
boarding houses to computers and intranet facilities. Students
can choose from the broad range of subjects on offer, and
receive tuition in small classes, with one-to-one tutor support
and vertical tutoring a feature of our tutorial programme.

Well-qualified teaching and boarding staff aim to educate
the whole individual, to give each student an opportunity to
build on his or her strengths. The school’s very strong pastoral
and caring philosophy creates an environment in which
students can thrive and develop.
The co-curricular programme provides the opportunity for
students to participate in a wide range of cultural and sporting
activities and give support to local and international
communities – recent projects have included trips to
Thailand, Malawi and the Himalayas.
Although a British boarding school, where 75% of the
students are English native speakers, King Edward’s has
students from over 30 countries around the world. The school
offers a range of scholarships to help those with particular
academic, artistic or musical abilities.
