Global Focus, 21st-Century Education, World of
Opportunities, and Key Resources
New Hampton School is an independent, coeducational,
college preparatory school for boarding and day students,
grades 9 through 12 and postgraduate. It is nestled in the
foothills of New Hampshire’s White Mountains and is in the
heart of the beautiful Lakes Region. The 350-acre campus
features six classroom buildings, including the recently
opened Pilalas Center for Math and Science. There are 13
dormitories, varying in size, each with resident dorm
parents/family.
The school, which has a mission to cultivate lifelong
learners who will serve as active global citizens, is an inclusive
community of students who are experiencing, exploring and
appreciating world cultures, traditions, histories, languages,
and religions.
The 2011-12 student body includes representation from 26
states and 22 different countries, and 18 percent of New
Hampton students are international. New Hampton routinely
sends its students to top colleges and universities. Students in
the last three years have attended schools including the
University of Michigan, Columbia University, Princeton
University, Cornell University, Williams College, Brown
University, UCLA, and University of Chicago.
New Hampton School, which introduced an iPad program in
2010, strives to innovatively prepare students for 21st century
leadership. The school’s two core values – respect and
responsibility – ground the school community. The school
boasts a tremendously strong athletic program and offers a
variety of arts offerings.
International Baccalaureate classes begin in the eleventh
grade and can be taken as part of the full Diploma Programme
or as certificate courses. The IB philosophy is evident
throughout the curriculum, and ninth and tenth graders are
prepared to embrace its challenges.
Equally prominent is the school’s commitment to the
delivery of durable skills using relevant content: the
Foundations of Learning (FOL) showcases the paramount
tools and content a 21st-century learner needs most. The
average class size is ten, and the breadth of academic
offerings ranges from university rigor to support, from the IB
Diploma Programme, Advanced Placement, honors courses,
and independent study to tutorials and ESOL classes that
accommodate individual methods and pace of learning.
As a boarding school, there are plenty of fun weekend
activities including dances, dinner trips, shopping, hikes,
concerts, and day trips to Boston. The school’s dining hall has
been recognized for its numerous organic options.
