A Traditional British Boarding School With An International
Reputation
With its gothic architecture, manicured lawns and
traditions dating back to the reign of Queen Victoria, Rossall
School is every inch the quintessential boarding school, yet
despite its thoroughly English packaging, it also has a modern
cosmopolitan feel to its 167 year old campus.
With children aged 2-18, Rossall School is a vibrant and
lively community of 672 boarding and day pupils. As one of
only nine schools in the UK with a separate International
Study Centre, Rossall boasts a truly diverse outlook, and with
34 different nationalities represented on the 160 acre campus,
it’s hardly surprising.
Academic Excellence
Rossall currently provides one of the broadest curriculum
programmes available in the UK independent school market.
Rossall Junior School is authorized to offer the IB Primary
Years Programme whilst the senior school continues to follow
the British National Curriculum culminating with GCSE
examinations at the end of Year 11. At sixth form, pupils have
the choice of studying either A levels or the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The school’s academic success is based upon small class sizes
and a tutorial system ensuring that all pupils receive regular
support and guidance on academic matters. On average 95% of
Rossall pupils proceed to higher education at universities
around the world each year with excellent Oxbridge success.
Outstanding Facilities
Rossall’s enviable on-campus facilities include 150 acres of
outdoor grassed sports pitches for cricket, football, rugby and
athletics plus floodlit all-weather surfaces for hockey (newly
refurbished in summer 2010), a gymnasium, heated indoor
swimming pool, Fives courts, a shooting range and an archery
range. A secure internet network is operational campus wide
in addition to computer facilities provided in three state-ofthe-art
IT suites. The school is also home to the Lawrence
House Astronomy & Space Science Centre, the only centre of
its kind in Britain, which specialises in astronomy education
and incorporates a space observatory and planetarium for year
round viewing of the night sky.
Boarding
Renowned for its standard of pastoral care, Rossall provides
a ‘family structure’ for girls and boys age seven plus, with 24
hour support to enable pupils to get used to life at boarding
school. Separate accommodation exists for boys and girls in
one of the ten boarding houses, which are in the process of
being sensitively modernized to the highest standard.
Extracurricular Activities
A huge range of extracurricular activities are offered to
pupils during the week. The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) also
plays an important part in school life and enables pupils to
gain flying, sailing and outdoor pursuits qualifications and
expertise.
Rossall also excels at music and the performing arts. In
addition to sport, music and drama, over 30 clubs are offered
in a variety of areas from chess to environmental groups.
