The International School of Bremen was established in 1998 to
serve the international community of Bremen. The school
occupies a purpose-built facility in the Technology Park
adjacent to the University of Bremen. Classes are generally
small and teachers are able to provide individual assistance.
The students range in age from 3 to 18 years and are placed
in grades – preschool through grade 12. The students come
from 35 different countries around the world. The school is
governed by a five member executive board representing the
corporate sponsors of the school. The director is the chief
executive officer of the school and makes all decisions in
conjunction with the executive board. The teachers are from
the United States, Germany, India, UK, Canada and Australia.
All of the teachers are certified according to the standards of
their home countries.
ISB offers an international curriculum drawing upon best
practice from the UK, USA, Australia and the host country,
with all instruction in English except for foreign language
classes. The curriculum in the elementary school is the
International Primary Curriculum. In the early part of
secondary the focus is on IGCSE and in the last two years the
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Specialist
teachers provide instruction in music, physical education, art,
drama and language. An ESL programme is offered for those
students who need assistance with English. A school
counsellor is available to assist both with social and emotional
development as well as academic matters. Parenting classes
are offered, the school is non-selective – however, SEN support
is limited.
