Sevenoaks School has been offering the IB Diploma
Programme for over 30 years and it is now studied by all 400+
pupils in the sixth form. The school provides pupils with a
balanced and intellectually demanding education while
promoting international understanding. Founded in 1432, the
school is situated on an attractive 100-acre campus adjoining
Knole Park on the edge of town. It is only 30 minutes from
central London and is close to Gatwick, Heathrow, the Channel
Tunnel and continental Europe. Sevenoaks is an international
community offering a unique boarding experience for young
people from the UK and all over the world.
Curriculum
A wide range of subjects is offered at GCSE, with setting in
core subjects. In the sixth form all pupils study the IB Diploma
Programme. Academic results are outstanding, and each year
a significant number of pupils gain places in both arts and
sciences at Oxford, Cambridge, Ivy League and other leading
universities. At Sevenoaks 16 students gained 45 points in the
IB in 2011, and 23 obtained 44 points. Special emphasis is
placed on the teaching of modern languages (with an
exceptional exchange programme). There is a wide range of
sport on offer, and pupils regularly achieve honours in rugby,
hockey, cross-country, cricket, athletics, sailing, shooting,
tennis and basketball. There is also a strong emphasis on
music, drama and art, and pupils are encouraged to
participate in other co-curricular activities. The school is
proud of its strong tradition of community service and
involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Facilities
An ambitious development programme has ensured that
facilities are first class. A state-of-the-art performing arts centre
opened in 2010. Other developments in recent years include a
fully equipped sports centre, a dining hall and language centre
and a specialist teaching centre for mathematics. There are
seven boarding houses, including a coeducational junior house
(11- 13), four single-sex houses (13-18) and two sixth form
houses (16-18), attracting both British and overseas pupils.
Accommodation ranges from a charming Queen Anne house to
the more modern, purpose-built International Centre.
Entrance
Year 7 (11+): entrance examination, school reference
and interview.
Year 9 (13+): entrance examination or Common
Entrance or scholarship examination, plus
school reference and interview.
Sixth Form (16+): entrance examination, personal statement
Up to 50 scholarships are awarded annually at 11, 13 and 16,
for academic excellence, music, sport, art and drama, and
Sevenoaks School is a registered charity for purposes of
