The Athénée de Luxembourg is the oldest secondary school of
the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Founded in 1603 by the
Jesuit Fathers, it became, after the dissolution of the Order of
the Jesuits in 1773, a public (state) secondary school whose
principal vocation is the students’ preparation towards
university studies. Alumni include Robert Schuman, one of
the founding fathers of the EU, and many other political,
literary, and scientific achievers, on both a national and
international scale.
Students are offered high-quality teaching promoting
excellence, which implements modern ICT and works at an
interdisciplinary level, as well as a huge range of optional
courses (from Ancient Greek to fashion design workshops and
dance-classes) and many extracurricular activities. The school’s
aim to offer a high-level international education has led to the
recent setting up of International Baccalaureate classes. We
became an authorized IB World School in February 2010.

two different levels: the two preparation years (10th grade and
11th grade) and the IB Diploma Programme (12th and 13th
grade).

Group 1: English A1 (literature)
Group 2: French B
Group 3: Economics/history
Group 4: Biology/chemistry/physics
Group 5: Mathematics
Group 6: Visual arts, German B or another subject from
groups 3 or 4
NB: The school reserves the right to cancel a subject if there
are insufficient numbers to make up a group.
Entry Requirements
In order to be admitted to the 10th, 11th or 12th grade,
students will need to have an excellent command of English.
In addition, each applicant will have to sit an admission test.
All applications will be treated individually, on the basis of
student portfolios.
