Ardingly College is an independent, coeducational boarding
school located on almost three hundred acres of delightful
Sussex countryside. Just 20 minutes from Gatwick airport and
45 minutes by train to London, it is ideally placed to offer a
first class education. Essentially a traditional English
boarding school, Ardingly has the added benefit of a strong
international perspective, with 20% of the students coming
from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia or America.
The school’s primary focus is on individual students, who
are helped to fit in quickly and make friendships that may well
last a lifetime. Class sizes are small, the range of activities and
opportunities on offer is quite extraordinary and the
atmosphere is friendly and caring.
Curriculum
The senior school of Ardingly College has 490 students
ranging from 13 to 18 years of age. Students prepare for the
English GCSE exams at age 16 (Year 11) and then choose between
the IB Diploma Programme and A levels in the sixth form.
Currently, the courses are evenly split, with approximately 100
students in the lower sixth form taking on either the IB or A levels
each year. Class sizes are small and although the maximum for
IB classes is 15, actual class sizes tend to range from eight to 12.
Our IB results are outstanding, and recently one of our
students was the top IB diploma student in England and fourth
outright worldwide. Consistently good results are achieved by
all of our students, who then go on to the top universities in the
UK, the USA, Europe or Australia. A full range of IB subjects is
offered while the languages available are Latin, French,
German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and English.
As well as an outstanding range of activities including
music, art, drama, sailing, CCF and games, the school also
offers an innovative choice of community service projects for
the CAS component of the IB, including a fortnight spent
teaching young African children in The Gambia, and a trip to a
school we have built in Kenya.
Entry requirements
Intake is for September each year and tests and interviews
are held throughout the year for those students wishing to
enter the school at all levels.
Entry into the IB Diploma Programme is by GCSE results
(currently at least six B grades or better) or by our own
entrance examination, along with school reports and
interview. A pre-IB programme is also offered for overseas
students, usually for one year before they would normally start
the main IB Diploma Programme.
There are two scholarships worth up to 50% remission of
fees available each year for outstanding applicants, with
testing taking place in February or March each year.
