King William’s College is a coeducational school located by
the sea on the beautiful Isle of Man and provides education
from 3-18. Boarding is available from age 11. Pastoral care is
excellent thanks to a fully supportive tutorial system. A wide
range of subjects is available at GCSE and results are
consistently high and far above the national average.
All students in the sixth form take the IB Diploma
Programme and on average over 95% of candidates are
awarded the full diploma. A one year pre-IB course has
recently been introduced for pupils in the upper fifth form.
Over 90% of our students are offered a place at their first
choice university. Our average IB point score is 33. Voted IB
School of the Year 2008/2009 by the Sunday Times.
There are around 60 students in each of the two sixth form
years and the average class size is 11.
College boarding facilities are regularly upgraded and all
sixth formers are in single or twin rooms. There are two
boarding houses on campus, one for boys and one for girls,
plus a new accommodation block containing en suite
bedrooms. Sixth form and fifth form centres provide modern
facilities in relaxed surroundings. The college has first class IT
facilities and the campus is wi-fi throughout.
The school has a very strong record in art, drama and music.
Over 50% of all pupils seek specialist tuition in a musical
instrument. Sporting facilities are very good and teams
compete successfully in hockey, rugby, football, golf, athletics
and a wide variety of other sports. The college runs a very
successful Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Academic scholarships are available and details can be
obtained from the Admissions Office. Bursary support may
also be available and information on this can be sought from
the Bursar (bursar@kwc.sch.im).
The Isle of Man is a jewel set in the Irish Sea: easily
accessible while retaining a tranquil charm and unique spirit.
The island is a microcosm of rural Britain and has beautiful
scenery and excellent walks while having modern shopping
and tourism facilities. It is a very safe place to live in as crime is
very low and the pace of life is generally less frenetic than in
mainland Britain. The island has a key role in the offshore
finance industry. The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency and
has associate member status of the European Union.
The college is very close to Ronaldsway airport and has direct
daily flights to a wide range of destinations including London,
Glasgow, Manchester and Dublin and onward links worldwide.
King William’s College is an excellent independent school
with a genuine international dimension in the education it
provides, and is justifiably proud to be an IB World School: ‘An
Island education for a global future.’
King William’s College is a registered charity for the
education of children. (IOM No. 335)
