IB Educator Network Developments
Educators from across the Americas participated in
four academies during 2011. These academies train
educators for the roles of workshop leaders, site
visitors and consultants. During 2011, 270 new
educators were trained in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
USA; St. Louis, Missouri, USA; Bogota, Colombia; and
Miami, Florida, USA. This year IBCC training was
incorporated into the academies; IBCC educators were
trained to become consultants, site visitors and
application readers.
The 2011 Regional Director’s Award was awarded to
Steve Hreha. The Regional Director’s Award honors

educators in the Americas region who have made a
lifelong commitment to support and further the goals
of the IB in their schools, communities, states or
provinces, and throughout the region. Mr Hreha has
led workshops since 1998. He has also led in-service
workshops for school districts in Canada and the
USA. Mr Hreha is a ToK examiner, a consultant and a
site visitor for prospective IB World Schools, in
addition to being a member of the Program Evaluation
Reading Team. The IB thanks Mr Hreha for the
countless hours, energy, talent, and enthusiasm he
has provided to help others understand and implement
the IB programmes.
