Towards the Sub-Categories in Svan
(indicative, conclusive, renarative, dubitative)
S u m m a r y
A same verbal form phrase and a sentence can be evidential (morpho-syntactic
category) and admirative (semantic category) in different contexts from general
linguistic viewpoint. In more cases different subcategories (evidential) formally
coincide to each other and in researching an informality of a text in can be distinguished
in condition of wide context. This or that verbal form expresses conclusive, inferentive,
renarative, indicative or it is admirative. It is conditioned by the fact, that for these
categories mostly a basic base is common – forms of perfective tenses and mood.
From this standpoint Svan is not exception – it (like other Kartvelian languages)
belongs to those languages, in which perfect is completely developed. The more, Svan
comparatively with Georgian has some other perfective screeves, just expressing act and
non-specifying of an action. Owing to this in Svan the forms of tense and mood
comparatively with a literary language, has wider potential to express many nuances
organically, without additional lexical means. This makes them to be poly-semantic.
Thus, at a glance it is difficult to delimit sub-categories and semes. In order the forms
coinciding do not to cause mixing that during informative discussing of a text, in exact
condition of forming principles of conceptions should be found the way out: for a
narrator the existence of information source and averting of a phenomenon an
speech in time is essential condition of evidentiality, admirativness is only and
emotional expressing of direct perception and synchronic of a phenomenon.
