"More Then Any Poetry"
(Academician Ketevan Lomtatidze - 100)
Posteriority in science, as an essential condition of developments, implies likemindedness
and hereditariness, not only coleague relation of old and new generations,
a teacher and a pupil, but a scrupolous unity for common affair. Such co-laborating of
individuals is defined by the choice of inner free persons and it has a decisive
significance for a common goal. They choose teachers as well as pupils – their lucky
meeting is mostly successful. This success is common and it could be said general as
an issue concerns to science, that following from its nature, can not be private.
Founding and achievements of the Iberian-Caucasian linguistic school was
mostly defined such matual co-laborating between the generations, that I said above.
The best esample of this is on the one hand activities of Ketevan Lomtatidze and her
teachers – Simon Janashia and Arnold Chikobava on the other hand. Evaluating of a
pupil's scholarly activity by teachers on concrete stages and levels is characteristic.
During characterizing Ketevan Lomtatidze's works before a scientific council in
1951, Arn. Chikobava announced: "Ketevan Lomtatidze's work "On one phonetic
regularity in the Abkhaz dialects" is a short work, but it has a principal value. It
confirms, that relevant studying of the mountainian Caucasian languages can give such
phonetic correspondences of the same order, which inform us the cognitive power of
historical phonetics. This correspondence that was established during the studying of
the Abkhazian dialects can be named "Lomtatidze's formula".
Ketevan Lomtatidze has chosen one of the languages of the Iberian-Caucasian
languages – Abkhaz with most complex structure. Just correct investigation of this
language's structure has an essential importance for arising and resolving the basic
issues of the history of the Iberian-Caucasian languages. An young scholar carried out
hard expedition work. She learnt "Abkhaz locally, recorded texts. Among the non
Abkhaz scholars, besides Simon Janashia she is the only who practically knows
Abkhaz" – noted Arn. Chikobava. In his opinion, thoroughly studying of the Abkhaz
dialects, knowig the research methods and a researcher's unerring intuition gave
