Concrete or Abstract?
S u m m a r y
Typology of a noun has many universal categories. One of them is the grouping of
nouns into concrete and abstract. If a noun N is concrete in Georgian, it will be
concrete in English and Japan as well.
All proper nouns and nouns with their own biochemistry are concrete.
Whatever has biochemistry it can be felt by the five senses. Proper nouns are the
defined concrete nouns and I consider them as concrete and not abstract nouns, but this
attitude could be discussed among the specialists.
I expose the three groups of nouns:
1. Concrete nouns:
I Nouns with visual face;
A. Real touchable things (for example: man, tree, chair, etc.),
B. Less touchable or un-touchable things including the collective nouns (for
example: the sky, group, horizon etc),
C. Proper nouns – Human names and geographical names.
D. Geometrical figures /forms (for example: square, line, triangle, etc.)
II Nouns with less visual face and invisible nouns:
A. The three senses: taste, smell, voice – only with concrete parameters
B. Airs (for example: air, gas, wind, etc)
