Place Adverbs in Svan Dialects
S u m m a r y
Phonetically as well as structurally different variants of place adverbs are
represented in the Svan dialects.
Like Megrelian-Laz, all dialects of this language is charcterized by two-membered
system of demonstrative pronouns and place adverbs, in which the word (pronoun,
adverb) denoting the closness with the 1 st person opposes the word (relevantly
pronoun, adverb) denoting the closness with tbe 2 nd and 3 rd person.
As the analysis of Svan dialectological material showed, place adverbs are
distinguished by the abundance of different phonetic variants (it implies the parallel
forms represented in different dialects as well as within the limits of one dialect).
