Premessa: Advances in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) occurred. A multicenter
cross-sectional survey was carried out in 2008 by SIMIT to provide an accurate picture of
CHB in Italy.
Obiettivo: The aim of the present analysis is to describe factors associated with changing
patterns of antiviral treatment of CHB.
Risultati: The study was performed in 74 Inf. Dis. Units of the SIMIT. All the 2,883 adult
pts with CHB and tested HIV- or not assessed (NA) observed consecutively from March to
September, 2008 were enrolled.
1,409 (48.9%) pts were on treatment. 550 (39%) on ADV, 394 (71.6%) combined with
LAM; 308 (56%) had been treated with LAM, 189 (34.4%) with IFN, and 53 (9.6%) were
naïve. Among the 281 (19.9%) pts on ETV, 141 (50.2%) were naïve, 56 (19.9%) had
assumed LAM, and 84 (29.9%) IFN. 271(19.2%) pts were on LAM, in 208 (76.8%) as the
first regimen, and 65 (23.2%) had been treated with IFN. 67 (4.8%) pts were on different
NUCs. 240 (17%) pts were on IFN, 153 (63.8%) naïve. 386 (57.4%) of the 673 pts treated
with IFN in their life were currently treated with a NUC.
A multivariate model showed that to be treated by a larger center reduced the chance of
LAM vs either IFN (AOR .38, 95% CI .21- .69, p .002) or other NUCs (AOR .43, 95% CI
.27- .67, p
