STADTBAD IN BERLIN
Master Entwurf Sommer 2020
Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Stadtbad
geschieht einerseits im historischen Kontext von
Berlin und andererseits im vollen Bewusstsein darüber,
wie diffus dieser Begriff aus heutiger Sicht
gefasst ist, der vorab allenfalls an ein öffentliches
Hallenbad und eine zentrale Stadtlage denken
lässt. Dieser begrifflichen Offenheit steht die Vorstellung
von Stadt gegenüber. Es geht darum, den
neu etablierten Typen Sportbad oder Erlebnisbad
im Stadtbad eine neue Perspektive zu geben. Ganz
im Sinne von Sigfried Giedions Zitat: ein Ort der
Regeneration und des körperlichen Wohlbefindens.

WOHNEN UND ARBEITEN IN STRASBOURG
Master Entwurf Winter 2020/21
Im Wintersemester erweitern wir die Reihe der hybriden
Typen mit der Aufgabe eines Bürogebäudes
in Kombination mit Wohnen in der Stadt des Europäischen
Parlaments – Strasbourg. Die Nutzung
des Bürohauses soll durch die Ergänzung mit Wohnen
und gemeinschaftlichem Freiraum zu einem
neuen Typus werden, der in das Leben der Stadt
mit eingebunden wird und dadurch einen erhöhten
urbanen Charakter verschaffen kann. Somit können
die europäischen Institutionen intensiver mit
der Stadt verknüpft werden, denn unmittelbar für
die Menschen, die für die Europäische Union arbeiten,
soll konkret dieser Haustyp entwickelt und ihren
Bedürfnissen gerecht werden. Die Beschäftigung
mit dem Thema entspricht wie immer dem
Wunsch, den Entwurfsprozess mit einem Mindestmaß
an programmatischen, wirtschaftlichen und
baugesetzlichen Bindungen anzugehen, um sich
umso intensiver mit den grundsätzlichen Fragen
von Arbeiten und Wohnen im Stadtraum auseinanderzusetzen
und daraus ableitend eine eigenständige
architektonische Idee formulieren zu können.
Urban Swimming Pool in Berlin
The topic of this semester´s studio is the design
of an urban swimming pool, or Stadtbad, in Berlin.
On the one hand, we are interested in the historical
context of this city; on the other hand, we
want to explore a contemporary interpretation of
a building type whose potential has currently
been only superficially developed. In the design
process, then, the openness of the type meets the
reality of the city. We will consider the usual demands
of program, economy and building laws
as matters of fact in order to focus on how scenarios
of urban life inform the life of the building.
Our aim is to give a new perspective to the type
urban swimming pool, one that transcends its
currently established uses as a sports pool or
adventure pool. We imagine a place such as that
evoked by Siegfried Giedion in the opening quote:
a place of regeneration and physical well-being;
a place of leisure in the city.
Working and Living in Strasbourg
Our study of hybrid types continues this winter
semester with the design of a building for offices
and housing in the city of the European Parliament
– Strasbourg. The design is driven on the
one hand by the unique context of this city of institutions;
on the other hand, it is driven by rapidly
evolving ideas of how we understand the relationships
between our working and living
spaces. With this design problem we want to critically
question the separation of uses in the city
that was so typical of the last century´s urban
planning. Our goal is to find out what kind of synergies
might unfold when we begin to overcome
the distances between the different uses and institutions
of the city.The working spaces of an office
building are to be brought together with living
spaces and common open spaces to make a new
type. By integrating it into the life of the city and
conceiving it as a catalyst for urban character,
we hope to design a building that not only serves
the daily needs of its users, but which generates
a more intensive exchange between the European
institutions and the city.
