Salutogenese – Das Jahrbuch der KIT-Fakultät für Architektur 2021

Die Professur befasst sich mit der analytischen Erfassung der treibenden
Kräfte und bedingenden Faktoren, die den Wandel von Gebäuden, Städten
und Landschaften in der Zeit bestimmen. Unser Ansatz geht vom Verständnis
von Architektur und Städtebau als Gebiete einer zugleich materiellen wie kulturellen
Produktion aus. Zum einen sind die konkreten Bedingungen zu berücksichtigen,
wie sie etwa durch den Ort vorgegeben werden, gleichzeitig
befasst sich Architekturgeschichte zentral mit Phänomenen des kulturellen
Austausches. Da die Befragung der Vergangenheit immer aus der Gegenwart
und ihren Problemen heraus erfolgt, widmen wir uns dabei der Umweltgeschichte
der Architektur. Mit ihr geht eine quantitative Ausweitung, vor allem
aber auch ein qualitativer Sprung in der Betrachtung zugunsten einer performativen
und systemischen Erfassung einher. In Zeiten einer schwindenden
Natur lohnt es sich, der Frage nachzugehen, in welcher Weise Gebäude und
urbane Strukturen zum Fortbestand des Lebens beigetragen haben.
The Chair tackles the task of analyzing the transformation
of buildings, towns, and landscapes across the ages as the
result of specific driving forces and conditioning factors.
Our approach is based on an understanding of architecture
and urban planning as fields of both material and cultural
production. On the one hand architectural history must
take into consideration how buildings relate to their concrete
site, to material, climate or biology. At the same time,
phenomena of cultural exchange offer an equally fertile approach.
Our point of view is solidly located in the present
with its contemporary aims and problems. Therefore, our
current approach is devoted to the environmental history of
architecture. This means both a quantitative expansion
and a qualitative turn towards a performative and systemic
understanding of architecture. In times of a vanishing nature
it is definitely worth knowing how buildings and urban
structures have contributed across the centuries to the continuity
of life.
