Opsomming<br />

In hierdie studie benut die navorser die 5D-siklus van Waarderende Ondersoek om ’n<br />

persoonlike waardering van die lewe en werk van Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio,<br />

Italiaanse meesterskilder, te doen. Die vyf teoretiese beginsels van Waarderende Ondersoek<br />

en Persoonlike Waardering word as grondslag vir die studie ondersoek en benut. Drie breë<br />

temas wat die positiewe kern van die omgang met Caravaggio verteenwoordig, is saamgestel<br />

en word bespreek aan die hand van die prominente gebruik van ’n biografie van Caravaggio<br />

deur Andrew Graham-Dixon, ’n bestudering van 17 van sy skilderye tydens ’n besoek aan<br />

Rome en die voer van ’n waarderende onderhoud met ’n museumgids voor die Galleria<br />

Borghese. ’n Gedig wat die temas op kreatiewe wyse uitbeeld, dien as kreatiewe stimulasie<br />

vir die ontleding van die temas.<br />

Abstract<br />

A personal appreciation of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-16<strong>10</strong>)<br />

After reading Andrew Graham-Dixon’s biography of the Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi<br />

da Caravaggio and seeing his breathtaking paintings, I felt the need to know more about him.<br />

I wanted to learn from his work and life to bring about personal and professional growth.<br />

The method of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) provided the academic framework for this study.<br />

Cooperrider, Whitney and Stavros (2008:3) have developed a classical definition of AI:<br />

Appreciative Inquiry is the cooperative co-evolutionary search for the best in<br />

people, their organizations, and the world around them. It involves the discovery<br />

of what gives “life” to a living system when it is most effective, alive, and<br />

constructively capable in economic, ecological, and human terms.<br />
