TYPES OF PROSOCIAL ACTIONS (UNIPRO):<br />

1. Physical help: Nonverbal behaviour that strives to assist other people to meet a specific<br />

objective, and which has these people’s approval.<br />

2. Physical service: Behaviour that eliminates the need for the recipients of the action to<br />

physically intervene to achieve a goal or complete a task, and which concludes with these<br />

people’s approval or satisfaction.<br />

3. Giving and sharing: Delivering objects, foods or possessions to others, thus relinquishing<br />

one’s own ownership or use of them.<br />

4. Verbal help: A verbal explanation or instruction, or sharing ideas of life experiences, which<br />

are useful and desirable for other people or groups for achieving an objective.<br />

5. Verbal consolation: Verbal expressions to mitigate the sadness of people who are in pain or<br />

difficult situations and bolstering their spirits.<br />

6. Confirmation and positive valuation of someone else: Verbal expression to confirm the<br />

value of other people or bolster their self-esteem, even in front of others. (Positively<br />

interpreting others’ behaviours, asking for forgiveness, interceding through words of<br />

sympathy or praise.)<br />

7. In-depth listening: Meta-verbal, caring behaviours and attitudes that express patient<br />

acceptance yet is actively oriented towards the contents expressed by the interlocutor in a<br />

conversation.<br />

8. Empathy: Verbal behaviours that, based on a voluntary emptying of one’s own contents,<br />

express cognitive understanding of the thoughts of the interlocutor or the emotion of<br />

experiencing similar feelings to the other person.<br />

9. Solidarity: Physical or verbal behaviours that express a voluntary willingness to share the<br />

consequences, especially painful ones, of the condition, status, situation or bad luck of other<br />

people, groups or countries.<br />

10. Positive presence and unity: Personal presence that expresses attitudes of psychological<br />

proximity, care, in-depth listening, empathy, availability for service, help and solidarity with<br />

other people, which contributes to the psychological climate of well-being, peace, concord,<br />

reciprocity and unity in a group or gathering of two or more people.<br />
