functional surfaces; butterfly valves shall be shipped closed or slightly open; and
swing check valves shall be blocked in either closed or open position.
B. Storage: Use the following precautions during storage:
1. Valves shall be stored and protected against all dirt, debris and foreign material at
all times.
2. Do not remove valve end protectors unless necessary for inspection; then reinstall
for storage.
3. Protect valves against weather. Where practical, store valves indoors. Maintain
valve temperature higher than the ambient dew point temperature. If outdoor
storage is necessary, support valves off the ground and protect in watertight
enclosures.
C. Handling: Valves whose size requires handling by a crane or lift shall be slung or rigged
to avoid damage to exposed valve parts. Handwheels and stems shall not be used as
lifting or rigging points.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS:
A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the
following in each category:
2.02 VALVE FEATURES:
1. Gate Valves: Nibco, Stockham, Hammond, Milwaukee.
2. Ball Valves: Apollo, Nibco, Watts, Milwaukee, Stockham, Anvil.
3. Eccentric Plug Balancing Valves: Keystone/Tyco, Milliken, DeZurik.
4. Globe Valves: Nibco, Stockham, Hammond, Milwaukee.
5. Butterfly Valves: Keystone/Tyco, Nibco, Milwaukee, Apollo, Stockham, Anvil.
6. Swing Check Valves: Nibco, Stockham, Watts (threaded), Apollo, Milwaukee,
Anvil (grooved only).
7. Non-Slam Check Valves: Nibco, Keystone/Tyco, Milwaukee, Stockham,
Centerline, Val-Matic, Metraflex, Technocheck, Golden Anderson, Anvil.
8. Lift Check Valves: Apollo, Nibco, Milwaukee, Metraflex, Stockham.
9. Solenoid Valves: Magnatrol Valve Corp., Skinner, General Controls, Asco.
A. General: Comply with MSS-92 1980 "Valve Users Manual."
B. All valves of each type shall be of one manufacturer.
C. Valve Design: Valves shall have rising stem, or rising stem outside screw and yoke design;
except, non-rising stem valves may be used where headroom prevents full operation of
rising stem valves.
D. Sizes: Unless otherwise indicated, provide valves of same size as upstream pipe size.
(Control valves shall be sized for required flow, 3 psi pressure drop maximum.)
E. Operators: Provide the following special operator features:
