VIBRATION AND SEISMIC CONTROLS FOR HVAC PIPING AND EQUIPMENT
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
A. Extent of vibration control work required by this Section is indicated on drawings
and schedules, and/or specified in other Division 23 sections.
1. All mechanical equipment, piping and ductwork as noted or in the
specification shall be mounted on vibration isolators to prevent the
transmission of vibration and mechanically transmitted sound to the
building structure. Vibration isolators shall be selected in accordance with
the weight distribution so as to produce reasonably uniform deflection.
2. All such systems must be installed in strict accordance with component
manufacturer’s and building construction standards. Whenever a conflict
occurs between the manufacturer's or construction standards, the most
stringent shall apply.
3. Any variance from or non-compliance with these specification
requirements shall be corrected by the contractor in an approved manner.
B. The work of this Section includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Vibration isolation for all mechanical systems/equipment, including, but
not limited to, the following:
AC Units
Air Handling Units
Chillers
Compressors
Computer Room Units
Condensers
Condensing Units
Cooling Towers
2. Vibration isolation for piping and ductwork.
3. Equipment isolation bases.
4. Flexible piping connections.
Fan-Powered Boxes
Fans (all types, including life
safety fans)
Pumps (all types)
Rooftop HVAC Units
Unit Heaters
Heat Pum
C. Vibration control products furnished as an integral part of factory-fabricated equipment
shall be accepted only if they fully comply with the requirements of this Section.
D. For additional and supplemental requirements, refer to other Division 23 sections for
equipment foundations; hangers; sealants; gaskets; requirements of electrical connections
to equipment isolated on vibration control products; and requirements of duct connections
to air handling equipment isolated on vibration control products.
