I respectfully request your.
approval to the appropriation of &9395.00 to Highways,
Street Cleaning, Equipment Account, to cover purchase of one
new Elgin Street Sweeper.
I enclose, for your information, letter of February
16, 1948, received from the Elgin Sweeper Company of Elgin,
Illinois, stating that the sweeper can be shipped to us in
30 days* This particular sweeper is very necessary and desirable
in order to keep the streets clean, and also, if we
do not act at once, it will be impossible to secure a new
sweeper for at least two years, as all orders are now taken
with the understanding that it may be at least two years
before delivery. Therefore, I hope that you will consider
my request favorably at your meeting on March 12th.

seven hundred"and fifty dollars (750.00) to Police Department,
Ordinary Maintenance, Special Item Account, to cover
expenses of Patrolman James Fitzpatrick who will attend the
F. B. I. Academy for a period of six months.
This man has had experience in the service as a
photographer and has done excellent work in that connection
for the Somerville Police Department since his employment.
