Honorable G. Edward Bradley
Mayor
Executive Department
City Hall
Somerville, Mass.
Dear Mr. Mayor:
City of Somerville
Board of Election Commissioners
Somerville ^3» Massachusetts
• " - - - - February 13,
After careful perusal of the budget the Board
of Election Commissioners recommend in the interest of economy
that one precinct in each ward be opened for the Presidential
Primary April 27, 19M-8. It is the opinion of the Board
of Election Commissioners that so few people take advantage,
to vote on this day, opening of all Polling places is a most
flagrant waste of money.
The cost of opening all Polling Places would
be TWO Thousand Five Hundred and Forty-two Dollars (25^2.00)
The opening one precinct a ward would be a saving of about
Eighteen Hundred (1300*00) Dollars.
In the year 19^0 there were Nineteen hundred
and Thirty-six (1936) Republican votes cast and Three Thousand
Three Hundred and Eighty-three (33^3) Democratic votes
cast, in the year 19*14 there was a total of Two Thousand
Seven Hundred and Fifty-two (2752) votes cp.st in the entire
city. These figures show that less than ten percent of the
people will vote at this Primary.
The Honorable, the Board of Aldermen
Somerville, Massachusetts
Dear Dr. Kurd an& Gentlemen:
George J. Moran
