In my opinion more thought must be given in the
approval of licenses for open lots for the use of the sale
of cars. They add nothing to the charm, service or Income
of a city and the approaches to Somerville via our main
arteries must be somewhat restricted. This particular
section of the Northern Artery is fast approaching the appearance
of a circus midway.
I refer to two petitions, identical in nature,
that call for additional space for Holoway Motors, Inc.,
located at JQ& McG-rath Highway, applying for new locations
at 261-263-265 McGrath Highway.
I understand that Holoway Motors intend to use
these lots for the display of new automobiles. I believe
the denial Of these permits affords small inconvenience
or loss to this corporation, but is detrimental to the
best interests of the City of Somerville. It is intereating
to note that the granting of these petitions carry
no additional fee to the city. If this concern, or any
other, were to build of first class construction for the
display and sale of cars, the Mayor's Office would offer
no objection.
Therefore^ I respectfully return, without my
signature, these two petitions of the Holoway Motors,, Inc.
