Dear Dr. Kurd and Gentlemen:

In reply to your order of
February 27th, asking for inf orinatipnjin_the__Bathhouse_at
SomerviTle Beach as "a result of __an insp2ectio_n__b_yJWilliam_J.>
Shea t'he following' facts concerning^ the building ar_e_he,reby
listed for your discussion*
1. The bathhouse as it exists to-day is nothing more than a
shell.
.2. Apparent acts of vandalism have completely destroyed the
interior of the building and has brought about the tearing
up and removal of the floors, ripping out and removal of
plumbing fixtures and other things which would require a complete
interior change.
3. The building itself presents a very dangerous hazard to
anybody that might enter.
4. We have constantly boarded up this building in the past
but after a few days the boarding becomes firewood for somebody
else.
5. Regarding the beach itself and its use, while no official
word has been heard from the State Board of Health this year
it is very probable that no swimming will be allowed.
6. Contact with our local Board of Health discloses the fact
that no permission will be given for bathing because a sewerage
condition allows sewerage to be dumped into the Mystic
River and until such time as that condition is removed no
bathing will be allowed.
Therefore, all things considered , it J.s the_qpiniqn
of jbhe wjriter that the building be demolished' and" whatever'
material is salvageable should be stored for future use.
