approval to the appropriation of §11,600*00 to.Highways-
Sidewalks Maintenance, Equipment Account, for the purchase
of four two ton dump trucks, as requested by the Street
Commissioner.
The trucks in the Highway Department are old and
unsatisfactory for further use, in addition to the heavy
expense involved keeping them in such repair, aa to make
them available for some kind of work, the safety of those
operating the trucks must also be considered. I am sure
that you are acquainted with the fact that many of these
present trucks are from 12 to 23 years in service.

.approval ^to.the. appropriation of "$28,200.66 to the Sanitary
Department, Equipment Accpun_t_,_ to cover the purchase of six
new chassis, and the cost of transferring the present bodies
on the Sterling dump trucks over onto the six new chassis,
including new hoists.
The present Sterlingtoucks now in use are over 19
years old, breaking down continously, thereby causing loss of
man hours and breaking down the schedule on picking up of
ashes and rubbish. As you well know, the six new motor
trucks purchased last year and recently delivered have ali
been placed in service, doing an excellent job picking up
all the rubbish, ashes, and waste material, which at this
time, with people cleaning premises and in front of their
homes, means extra work and heavy work for the men and trucks.
I sincerely hope that your Honorable Board will take
prompt action on my.request so that advertising can be
placed and early award of contract for purchase, as I would
'like to secure delivery of these much needed-truc-ks as soon
as possible.
