I respectfully request the approval of your Honorable^
Board to the appropriation of $100,000.00 from 19^9,
Revenue to Maintenance School Buildings,. Buildings_and_
Grounds, Special. It em,_ to cover cost of doing work ordered
by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety
in the various school buildings.
I have requested Mr. Bernard Whitney, Inspector
of the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, the
gentleman who made a very thorough inspection of all the
school buildings in the city, to appear at tonight'.s meeting
and tali with you about the work which Mr. Whitney
says..imst be ^done'orl or before October 25, 19^3. Mr. Whitney
has kindly consented to be here and answer any and
all questions propounded to him by your Honorable Board.
My abfcv» request for an appropriation of $100,000.00 ie
sent to you so that you may have something before you.
I have also asked Mr. Williamson of the Building
Department who has been in the employ of the City of
Soraerville for many years, and is experienced in construction
and repair work in buildings, to also appear
before your Honorable Board at tonight's meeting. Mr.
Williamson has made an estimate as to the probable cost
of the work ordered done by Mr. Whitney. I am sure that
after consultation with Mr. Whitney and Mr. Williamson
you will be in a position to determine what work
is necessary and what in your opinion should be the
amount' appropriated by your Honorable Board to do the
work.
It is within the province of the Board to reduce
this amount. Should you deem it insufficient, I
will welcome a recommendation for such additional monies
considered necessary to meet this emergency.
