MAYOR
Communication from City Engineer enclosed.
The Honorable, the Board of Aldermen
City of Somerville,
M a a s a chu se 11 s
Dear Dr* Kurd and Gentlemen:
City of Somerville 74482
Office of the Mayor
March 24, 1948
The 1948 Budget now before your
Honorable Board for approval shows that I recommended that
the sum of two thousand dollars (^2,000.00) be appropriated
to School Buildings, Janitors Salaries, also two thousand
dollars to Buildings and Grounds, Labor Account, 'one
thousand dollars (1,000.00) Maintenance Municipal Buildings,
Personal and one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) Maintenance
Municipal Buildings Labor Account. These amounts were
recommended by me to cover payment of overtime to employees
under the supervision of the Commissioner of Public Buildings.
I have been advised by the Commissioner of Public
Buildings that additional money for overtime in these particular
accounts will have to be made available immediately.
The Recreation Commission, as. you well know, have
many activities necessitating the use of public buildings.
It is also necessary to maintain service for the School Department,
to keep buildings open for providing shower baths
for the citizens and many other uses.
I am advised by the Auditor that overtime in the
amount of ^1837.77 has already been incurred covering overtime
for the janitors performing extra work providing
facilities and serv.ices enumerated above. Therefore, it is
now necessary to request your Honorable Board to make
ayafla!5le_ an_ajppropr'iation of ten thousand, dollars
(fro,0"0'0.0'0') to'School Buildings. Janitor Services "which,is
in addition to the two thousand dollars ($2yOOO.00) already
shown in the budget covering this particular account.
Also, I am further advised that the one thousand
dollars (|l,000.00) shown, in the budget for Maintenance
Municipal Buildings Personal Service Account, which has to
do with furnishing similar services by Custodians in Municipal
Buildings, has already been expended so that it is now
necessary to request your Honorable Board to make available
an appropriation of three thousand dollars ($3,0'0'070'0')~t^o
Maintenance Municipal Buildings Personal Service Account«
If these appropriations are not approved, it will
mean that they will have to discontinue the showers in
Public Buildings and notify the Recreation Commission and
School Department that we will not be able to provide them
service any longer in this connection.
GEB/R
Respectfully yours,
G. Edward Bradley
MAYOR
